Not that long ago, a night out drinking in Vietnam used to consist of sitting on small plastic stools, at a local street stall, sipping Bia Hoi – a local 3% lager that’s traditionally brewed daily, matured for a short period, and then delivered fresh every day in small steel/metal kegs to stalls/bars.
Whilst the plastic stools, and street stalls are still there, and the times and incomes have changed, along with pallets. Feather-light lagers just aren’t cutting it any more for those looking for something a little different, with more depth and flavour.
Over the last five years, more than two dozen micro-breweries and craft beer bars have popped up across Hanoi and Saigon. Helping satiate that thirst for something different, and cater to the growing number of tourists looking to sample some local brews.
