The Bottle Shop – Hanoi

Globally, they go by a few different names. The Americans call them Liquor Stores, the English call them Off Licences (or ‘Offies’), the Scandinavian’s call them Alko Stores, and in Australia we call them Bottle Shops (or ‘Bottlo’s’).

So it should come as no surprise, to know that a couple of the owners of Hanoi’s The Bottle Shop are Australian. They’re also the brains behind the another awesome craft beer destination Standing Bar, just on the other side of Hoy Ta lake.

Located on the quiet, Dang Thai Mai Alley of the Tay Ho District, and only a stones throw from Turtle Lake Brewing, the Bottle Shop is a small craft beer bar cum retail shop that’s stocked with one of Hanoi’s best ranges of bottled and canned craft beers, ciders & liquors. All available to drink on-site or take-away (they even have free delivery!).

Stepping off the alley, and into the front yard of The Bottle Shop, you’re greeted by a large red (storage) shipping container, and a set of timber tables and benches, all shielded by large red market umbrella’s

Inside the air-conditioned bar/shop, you’ll find super friendly staff, who are fluent in English, and very knowledgable about the pedigree of their beer. Along with 4 x regularly rotating draught taps, and 4 x large fridges stocked with tasty offerings from Heart of Darkness, Homie, LAC, Fuzzy Logic, 7 Bridges, Pasteur Street and Hanoi Cider Co to name a few.

Whilst the focus here is to showcase local Vietnamese craft beer, you’ll also find offerings from Belgium, Scotland and the US. With brews from Brew Dog, Rogue, and Stone regularly gracing their fridges

Located out the back is an expansive grassed area, that’s great for chillin, or enjoying one of The Bottle Shop’s lazy Sunday afternoon sessions, with Old Skool vinyl spinning DJ’s and 12hr brisket BBQ’s (check their FB for details). The back yard can also be used for hosting parties and events up to 200 guests.

Whilst The Bottle Shop is located outside the main city area on Hoy Ta lake. It’s only a short Grab/Taxi ride from most hotels/accomodation. Plus theres a plethora of other great craft beer destinations and restaurants to check out in the area.
