CCraft Beer – Hanoi
It would be easy to dismiss the extra ‘C’ in the CCraft Beer’s name as a translation related typo. However, in this instance the extra ‘C’ represents the first name of owner and head brewer, Cuong Nguyen. Who for over 20 years has honed his brewing skills, with macro breweries such as Halida, Carlsberg, Budweiser, and Beck’s, before deciding to branch out on his own and focus on smaller local beers.
The CCraft Beer is the Hanoi tap room for Cuong’s larger C-Brewmaster brewery, that’s located approx 10km North of Hanoi.
Opening their doors in 2016, CCraft is located in the bustling Hàng Buồm district of Hanoi’s Old Quarter. This non-descript building features 9 x C-Brewmaster taps, and a moderate selection of 3rd party bottled and canned beers. Spread over 3 x air-conditioned floors, the ground floor of CCraft is cosy room, with exposed brick, dark timber, and bench seating that overlooks the street.
Whilst there’s a fairly decent variety of C-Brewmaster styles to chose from. Of the ones I sampled, I found a few to be a bit hit & miss. Some were warm, under-carbonated, and lacking any real depth / flavour. Whilst the IPA and Amber were both bang on, and easily the stand-outs.
There is a compact food menu, consisting of mainly Western food and a smattering of local cuisine. Unfortunately, given the variety of awesome street food thats available in Vietnam, the food on offer paled in comparison.
